Perform Daily Backup

In this example you will create a backup system that enables a one-click, hassle-free backup of your work via the Script Menu. Using Finder contextual menus, you will be able to quickly and dynamically specify:

• Files/Folders that are to be backed up each-and-every-time a backup is performed, and
• Files/Folders that are to be included in the next backup but no subsequent backup after that.

To assist in understanding how this backup system works, it's helpful to imagine two lists that contain files you have selected for backing up.  Each list has a different purpose:

• The Regular Backup List contains File/Folder items you work on from day-to-day, these items require backing up on a regular basis as they are often changed or edited.
• The Temporary Backup List contains File/Folder items that you don’t change often (or at all) but require back up the next time a backup is performed.

This backup system is made up of five Workflows:

• Add to Regular Backup List Workflow:  Takes the user selected Finder items and saves them to the Regular Backup List.
• Remove from Regular Backup List Workflow: Takes the user selected Finder items and removes them from the Regular Backup List.
• Add to Temporary Backup List Workflow: Takes the user selected Finder items and saves them to the Temporary Backup List.
• Remove from Temporary Backup List Workflow: Takes the user selected Finder items and removes them from the Temporary Backup List.
• Perform Daily Backup Workflow: Takes the Files/Folders specified in the Regular and Temporary Backup Lists and copies them to a backup location. Once the copying is completed, the Temporary Backup List is emptied of its' items while the Regular Backup List remains unchanged.

Unregistered Actions will only be able to save a maximum of eight Finder items per Backup List. Registered Actions have no restrictions and can contain unlimited number of items in a list. Use the AWA Manager Action to register.
