General Issues
- Problem: Unable to save, resave or open more than 8
items from the result passed from the previous Action.
Diagnosis: An unregistered version of Automator Workflow Additions can only save, resave or open up to 8 items from the result passed from the previous Action. Purchase and register Automator Workflow Additions to remove the 8 item restriction. - Problem: The Save Action and/or
Resave Action has not saved the result passed from the previous Action.
Diagnosis: The wrong data type has been passed from the previous Action. Check that the correct data type has passed into the Action. Another possibility is that the result from the previous Action was empty. - Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "The previous Action has passed a null
value."
Diagnosis: The problem lies with the previous Action returning a null value. The cause of this error is most likely to have stemmed from an unreported error in the previous Action. Use the View Results Action to track down where the error is occurring. - Problem: The Action has stopped and one of the following
error messages has appeared: "The selected saved
result could not be found." or "The selected saved result could not be opened."
Diagnosis: The selected saved result may not yet be saved in the Workflow. Check that the saved result has been save in the Workflow before trying to open or use it in another Action. Use the 'AWA Manager' Action to see if a globally saved result still exists. - Problem: The Action has stopped with error: "The
selected saved result doesn't contain a folder reference."
Diagnosis: The selected saved result does not contain a reference (or file path) to a folder. Select, or create if necessary, a saved result that contains a reference (or file path) to a folder. This error is also triggered if the folder referenced in the saved result no longer exists. - Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "Unable to write to path: [filepath]."
Diagnosis: The Action could not write to the Result Folder selected in the Actions 'Where' popup menu. An error is triggered if the user does not have permission to write to that folder. - Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "The selected saved result is the wrong
data type. (Files/Folders only)"
Diagnosis: The saved result selected in the "Where" popup menu is not of the Files/Folders data type. Make sure the selected saved result is of the Files/Folders data type. - Problem: The Action has stopped and one of the following
error messages has appeared: "An error has occurred
moving the Files/Folders passed from the previous Action." or "An error
has occurred copying the Files/Folders passed from the previous Action."
Diagnosis: This can be a difficult error to diagnose. Common causes of these errors include: (a) the passed Files/Folders from the previous Action may not exist (or no longer exist) at the locations specified and (b) the user may not have access to the locations of the Files/Folders. Check that you have permission to access the location of the Files/Folders and that they still exist. - Problem: The Action has stopped and the following error message has
appeared: "The result passed from the previous Action is not of the
Files/Folders data type."
Diagnosis: The data type passed from the previous Action must be of the Files/Folders data type.
Action Specific Issues
Troubleshooting Save Result:
- Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "This Save Result Action cannot be identified."
Diagnosis: The Save Result Action's identity has been corrupted or deleted. To correct this situation, replace the Save Result Action with a new one.
Troubleshooting Open Result:
- Problem: The Action has stopped and the following error
message has appeared: "No saved result was selected in the 'Open' list."
Diagnosis: No saved result has been selected for this Action to open. Make sure a saved result title has been selected in the 'Open' list.
Troubleshooting Resave Result:
- Problem: The Action has stopped and the following error
message has appeared: "No saved result was selected in the 'Save
to' popup menu."
Diagnosis: No saved result has been selected for this Action to resave to. Make sure a saved result title has been selected in the 'Save to' popup menu.
Troubleshooting New Folder Inside Result Folder:
- Problem: The Action has stopped and the following error
message has appeared: "No saved result was selected in the 'Where' popup
menu."
Diagnosis: No saved result folder has been selected for this Action to create a new folder in. Make sure an appropriate saved result that contains a reference to a folder has been selected in the 'Where' popup menu. - Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "Unable to create new folder."
Diagnosis: The Action could not create the new folder inside the folder found in the saved result selected in the Actions 'Where' popup menu. The cause of this error is likely to stem from the user not having permission to write to the folder found in the saved result.
Troubleshooting Copy Finder Items to Result Folder:
- Problem: The Action has stopped and the following error
message has appeared: "No saved result was selected in the 'Where' popup
menu."
Diagnosis: No saved result folder has been selected for this Action to copy the passed Files/Folders to. Make sure an appropriate saved result containing a reference to a folder has been selected in the 'Where' popup menu.
Troubleshooting Move Finder Items to Result Folder:
- Problem: The Action has stopped and the following error
message has appeared: "No saved result was selected in the 'Where' popup
menu."
Diagnosis: No saved result folder has been selected for this Action to move the passed Files/Folders to. Make sure an appropriate saved result containing a reference to a folder has been selected in the 'Where' popup menu.
Troubleshooting Stop if Result is Empty:
- Problem: The Action has stopped and the following error
message has appeared: "No saved result was selected in the 'Save
Result' popup menu."
Diagnosis: No saved result has been selected for this Action to determine if it is empty. Make sure a saved result title has been selected in the 'Save Result' list. - Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "This Action has been stopped at the request
of the user."
Diagnosis: The selected saved result is empty.
Troubleshooting Get Common Folder:
- Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "This Action has been stopped at the request
of the user."
Diagnosis: No common folder was identified in the Files/Folders passed from the previous Action. If you do not want this Action to stop then uncheck the "Stop if a common folder cannot be found" check box.
Troubleshooting Limit Result:
- Problem: The Action has stopped
and the following error message has appeared: "The
selected saved result is the wrong data type. (Files/Folders & URLs
only)"
Diagnosis: The items passed from the previous Action are not of the Files/Folders or URLs data types. Make sure the previous Action only passes Files/Folders or URLs data types. - Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "Limit was not set."
Diagnosis: No item limit was set in the Actions 'Limit items to' field. Set the 'Limit items to' field to a number between 1 and 1000. - Problem: The Action has stopped and the following
error message has appeared: "This Action has been stopped at the request
of the user."
Diagnosis: The action has stopped because the number of items passed from the previous Action was less than the limit. If you don't want this Action to stop then uncheck the "Stop if the number of items passed is less than limit" check box.
